…for UCU members at the University of the West of England
Calling all UWE UCU and UCU Bristol members and supporters. On the evening of Monday the 5th June 2023 the Vice Chancellors of both UWE Bristol and University of Bristol are hosting an event that asks – What does the future of higher education look like in Bristol?
Without addressing (in)equality pay gaps, ending the reliance on insecure contracts, reducing excessive workload and ensuring fair pay in line with years of pay erosion there will be no future for Higher Education in Bristol.
We will be holding a demonstration in our continued campaign for better workplace conditions.
University working conditions are Student learning conditions!!!
Assemble 17:30 – Corner of St George Street and Hill Street BS1 5RR
Demonstrate 17:45 – 18:30 Outside St Georges Bristol, Great George Street
Members and Supporters are encouraged to stick around for a solidarity & wellbeing session venue TBC
Please share widely with your Trade Union, Campaign and Student groups.

Why we could not throw over 600 members of staff to the wind for a loose promise of 25 roles for one year.
You have just received an e-mail from the UWE management concerning their plans for career progression, module leadership at G grade and routes into ‘I’ and ‘J’ grades. This has surprised us as the negotiations only ended 45 minutes prior to its release.
We will of course be taking each point within their statement and providing our analysis of it. We will include this in the next newsletter.
We thought that a succinct e-mail regarding the negotiations and the concerns we as your union negotiators had would be helpful in the meantime.
Please discuss this with your union and non-union colleagues.
UCU recognise the support and solidarity of our sister unions Unison and Unite in these negotiations.
